Every character in Game of Mods is driven by a language model running on your Mac. Walk up and speak, or type: they answer aloud in their own voice, remember the conversation, and stay in character. Nothing leaves your machine. No account, no cloud, no API key.

Voice first, keyboard always

The whole game is designed to be played by voice. Navigate the menus, start a journey, and talk to characters just by speaking. Prefer a keyboard? Every voice path has a typed twin: at the main menu, in the pause screen, and in the world. Vision-impaired players are a first-class audience, not an afterthought.

A built-in five-minute tutorial. The Host walks you through moving, looking, approaching a character, talking, pausing, and leaving. No reading required.

Journeys

A journey is a short authored story: scenes, cinematic shots, and beats that react to what you do and say, with characters who have their own goals. Play ours, play the community’s, then make your own.

Make your own in Studio

• NPCs: personality, voice, what they know and what they refuse to discuss, and a VRM avatar
• Player characters: your own avatar with its own voice
• Journeys: scenes, shots, beats, conditions and actions, per-chapter audio
• Spaces: the places journeys happen in

Mods are data, not code: JSON plus VRM and GLB assets. There is no scripting engine, so a mod can never run code on anyone’s machine. Import VRM 1.0 avatars and the license embedded in the file is checked before the mod can ship.

Steam Workshop

Browse, subscribe, and play mods without leaving the game. Publish your own; a validation pass catches broken bundles before anything is uploaded.

A 3D workbench where you talk to an Operator and load assets and avatars. Jack in, try things, jack out.

Metal 4 rendering, VRM characters, on-device Gemma 4 dialogue, and Apple speech recognition and synthesis. Playable on an 8 GB M1. 16 GB unified memory recommended for the smoothest conversations.

Early Access

Characters, voice, and the creator tools are the heart of the game and are where our effort has gone. Environments are still simple and will grow through Early Access. What the community builds will shape this as much as anything we ship.
